Important Occasions of Islam

Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is considered the holiest month of the year. During this month, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset to commemorate the Quran's revelation to Prophet Muhammad.

Laylat al-Qadr
Also known as the Night of Power, this is the most important night of the year. It happens on one of the odd nights during the last ten days of Ramadan and is said to be the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad.

Eid al-Fitr
This is a Ramadan festival that celebrates the end of the month. Prayer, food, and gift-giving are all part of the festivities.

Hajj
An yearly trip to Mecca is expected of all able-bodied Muslims at least once in their lives. It is held in the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah.

Eid al-Adha
A ceremony held during the Hajj to honor Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son for the sake of Allah. It is marked by prayer, feasting, and an animal sacrifice.

Ashura
The tenth day of Muharram, the Islamic month. It honors Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussain, and his companions' martyrdom at the Battle of Karbala.

Shab-e-Barat
The 15th night of Sha'ban, the Islamic month. It is thought to be the night when Allah forgives sins and offers believers forgiveness.

Mawlid al-Nabi
A commemoration of Prophet Muhammad's birth. It takes place on the 12th of the Islamic month of Rabi' al-awwal.
